TENTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
November, 21, 2009, has been set aside to acknowledge Midcoast Senior College’s ten years of growth and success as the Bath/Brunswick region’s center for Lifelong Learning.
Midcoast Senior College is one of seventeen autonomous, self-governing Senior Colleges in the State. We serve the area from Damariscotta to Freeport and inland toward Augusta. Most classes are held at the University College site at 9 Park Street in Bath.
The first Senior College to be organized in the State is the Portland-based program, now called “OLLI,” which stands for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. In 1999, our own Jack Thompson and Nancy Wheeler were the key players in establishing here a similar avenue for lifelong learning in our area with classes beginning March of 2000. As of this writing we have our largest enrollment with 286 students in 15 courses.
Jack Thompson and Nancy Wheeler, along with Judy Rouillard and Stu Gillespie, each of them a past or present member of the Executive Board, have coordinated and put into motion a most interesting and inviting program of learning and socialization to celebrate our anniversary.
