UMF Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education now available in Bath

The University of Maine at Farmington offers a unique opportunity for working professionals in southern and central Maine, who hold an associate degree in childhood education or an equivalent, to complete a Bachelor’s degree program in Early Childhood Education. Coursework will also prepare students for the new Maine Birth-to-Five (081) Certificate.
All of the professional courses required in the degree will be offered by UMF at University College at Bath/Brunswick, 9 Park Street in Bath. The general education courses are available in Bath through other UMS campuses.
Courses begin in Fall 2008 and are planned so participants can complete the Bachelor’s Degree within 5 years.
Candidates eligible for this special field-based program are working professionals with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
The program is designed for a cohort of students. To assure a space in this cohort and to meet an early August 2008 deadline, apply now for admission. Candidates must commit to taking two ECE courses per semester.

Candidates must hold an Associate Degree or equivalent.

ECH 256 Creative Arts & Technology for the Young Child Squibb
F 5:00PM-8:15PM & S 8:30AM-3PM Sept. 5/6, 26/27, Oct. 17/18, Nov. 7/8, Dec. 5/6
Focuses on planning and implementing curriculum in visual arts, music, movement, literature and drama in early educational settings. Students also become acquainted with the use of technology for artistic expression in preschool and K-3 classrooms. The application of course material with young children is an integral part of the course. Credits:4
ECH 450 Senior Seminar: Research in Early Childhood Education Squibb
W 5-8PM Sept. 3, 17, Oct. 1, 15, 29, Nov. 5, 19, Dec. 3
Designed to explore the role of research in current topics in Early Childhood Education, this synthesizing course examines research and practice through an in-depth study of a particular issue. Each topic of contemporary relevance will be chosen by the instructor. Each student demonstrates ability to read and discuss technical aspects of relevant research and to conduct a small study on the topic. Prerequisite(s): Professional Standing in Education or permission of instructor. Credits: 4
