Associate in Applied Science Education Program
Kennebec Valley Community College

Kennebec Valley Community College’s A.A.S. Education Program is available, in part, at University College Centers* and sites statewide. Some travel to a campus and to Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield may be required. The two areas of concentration available within the Education Program are Special Education and Speech/Language; field experience is required for both concentrations. Most of the specialty courses and major courses in these two concentrations are offered on a regular rotation schedule via interactive television statewide.

The Special Education concentration is designed for individuals who are currently working as Level I Technicians or for those who wish to work as Special Education or Title I Technicians in the schools; graduates are eligible to apply for authorization as an Education Technician II (Maine Department of Education).

The Speech/Language concentration is designed for individuals who wish to work in the field of speech pathology with children and adults in public schools or other settings; graduates are eligible to seek employment with licensed speech pathologists who can then apply for their registration as an Assistant with the Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology (Department of Professional and Financial Regulation).

Admission Requirements
Completed application, including a letter of character-reference
Acceptable scores on placement tests
Entering students must designate which option (Special Education or Speech/Language)
they intend to pursue.
