Human Services Certificate
The University of Maine at Augusta
The University of Maine at Augusta’s Human Services Certificate program is available at University College Centers* and sites statewide on-site, online or via interactive television. The program is a 31-credit-hour sequence of courses that provides you with a foundation of skills and knowledge important to the general field of human services. Courses include:
COM 101 Public Speaking, COM 102 Interpersonal Communications, or COM 104 Communication in Groups and Organizations (choose one)
ENG 101 College Writing
HUS 101 Introduction to Social Service Systems, HUS 124 Fundamentals of Community Practice, and Involvement, and HUS 210 Career Experience in Social and Rehabilitative Services
HUS 352 Interventions for Families with Children, HUS 263 Family Interactions, or SOC 360 Sociology of the Family (choose one)
PSY 100 Introduction to Psychology and PSY 330 Interviewing and Counseling
SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology and SOC 201 Social Problems
Courses encompass intervention methods, counseling techniques, and helping skills for persons who need a variety of services. All courses in this certificate can be applied to either the Associate of Arts in Social Services or the Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Human Services degrees.

The following items will be needed as part of the application process:
$5 non-refundable application fee
high school transcript or GED test scores
all official college transcripts
it is recommended that placement tests in reading and writing be taken
appropriate documentation of immunization history (if born after 1956)
