Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community Certificate

University of Southern Maine’s Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community Certificate program is available at each of the seven University of Maine System campuses, most University College Centers, University College of Bangor, the Hutchinson Center in Belfast, and Lewiston-Auburn College. The certificate is designed for you if you are a mental health practitioner who desires training in psychosocial rehabilitation or wishes to upgrade your skills and knowledge.

The certificate’s 15 credits of graduate level coursework are fully transferable to the master’s degree program in Rehabilitation Counseling at University of Southern Maine. To apply for the master’s program, contact the University of Southern Maine Office of Graduate Admissions at 207-780-5306. The application deadline for the Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community Certificate Program is April 1.

The Department of Human Resource Development offers the entire five-course certificate via two-way videoconferencing at each of the seven University of Maine System campuses, most University College Centers, University College of Bangor, the Hutchinson Center in Belfast, and Lewiston-Auburn College. Courses are offered as follows:

HCEP 610 Introduction to Rehabilitation Counseling and Services (fall)
HCEP 611 Medical and Psychological Aspects of Disability (summer)
HCEP 612 Disability and the Family in a Multi-cultural Society (spring)
HCEP 614 Principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation (spring)
HCEP 615 Vocational Counseling and Placement in Rehabilitation (fall), or
HCEP 619 Myth, Madness, and Mental Illness (summer)

If you are admitted to the certificate program, you can choose an option for tuition assistance through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Rehabilitation Services Administration. Please note that you must agree to some employment stipulations regarding such assistance.
