Anyone who has completed or intends to complete the course requirements may register for the Certificate in Liberal Arts (Level I).
What is necessary to receive the Certificate in Liberal Arts (Level I)?
A student must complete at least one qualifying course in each of six core Liberal Arts subject areas: composition, mathematics, social and behavioral science, communication, humanities, and laboratory science.

Who awards the Certificate in Liberal Arts (Level I)?
Any of the five participating campuses of the University of Maine System may award theCertificate in Liberal Arts (Level I): University of Maine at Augusta, University of Maine at Fort Kent, University of Maine at Machias, University of Maine at Presque Isle, and the University of Southern Maine. You may choose which campus you wish to award the Certificate. This choice is indicated on the Notification of Completion Form which you submit when the you have completed all of the course requirements for the Certificate.
What is the process for receiving the Certificate in Liberal Arts (Level I)?
You complete and submit an Enrollment Form indicating that you wish to receive the Certificate in Liberal Arts (Level I) when all the requirements for the Certificate are complete (directions for submission are on the form). You will receive a written Enrollment Confirmation. When you have completed all of the requirements for the Certificate, you fill out the Notification of Completion Form and forward it to the campus you wish to award your Certificate (directions for submission are on the form). Once all of the course work has been confirmed, the campus will mail you your Certificate in Liberal Arts (Level I).
Is there any additional charge to receive the Certificate in Liberal Arts (Level I)?
No.
Will the course credit I earn working toward the Certificate in Liberal Arts transfer to any campus of the University of main System?
Absolutely. Course credits used to earn the Certificate in Liberal Arts may be transferred to any University of Maine System campus to meet general education requirements (not only to the participating campuses listed above), or to any Maine Community College System Campus. Although all Certificate in Liberal Arts course credits are transferable, some courses may not completely meet specific general education requirements at some campuses. Always check with an advisor before selecting courses. Courses taken toward the Certificate in Liberal Arts will be valid for transfer credit purposes within the University of Maine System for a period of ten years.
