Master of Science in
Electrical Engineering
The University of Maine
The University of Maine Master of Science in Electrical Engineering non-thesis option program is now available online. You can expect to complete the 30 semester hours of coursework for this degree within two or three years. In order for you to become a candidate for this degree, you must either have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or at least demonstrated its equivalent. Staff in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE 207-581-2223) can elaborate about this process.
Degree Requirements: A set of four core courses in Linear Systems Analysis (ECE 512), Electromagnetic Theory (ECE 550), Random Variable and Stochastic Processes (ECE 515), and Solid State Electronics (ECE 565) are offered on a rotating basis. You are expected to complete at least three of these four courses. In addition to the core curriculum, you may enroll in state-of-the-art courses that cover areas such as artificial neural networks, robotics, advanced microprocessors, microwave acoustics, integrated optics, surface acoustic wave devices, sensors, VLSI design, computer vision and localized networks.
Normally no more than six credits of ECE 400-level coursework will be acceptable for graduate credit. In addition, no more than one ECE 599 and two ECE 598 courses may be taken toward fulfilling the requirements. You may also choose to take courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and other disciplines that are consistent with your program goals. You must have a GPA of at least 3.0 for all courses taken as a graduate student.
After acceptance to the Graduate School, it is necessary for you to meet with the Graduate Coordinator of the ECE Department to discuss your proposed program of study. Call 581-2223 to schedule. Note that you can take two graduate courses as a non-degree student before being admitted to the Graduate School. These courses can then be applied to your degree program.
