RN Completion Degree Program
The
University of Maine and The University of Southern Maine
The University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine have collaborated to develop a RN Completion Program that is available in part at University College locations and receive sites statewide. This program is designed for registered nurses who have an associate degree or diploma in Nursing and wish to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
Recognizing the importance of career tracks for registered nurses and the difficulties imposed on continued education by busy lives, multiple commitments and distance, University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine offer several of the core baccalaureate nursing courses over interactive television (ITV) and on the Web. The programs have conducted a faculty review of the required nursing courses and agreed that each institution will recognize these courses as equivalent to their own. Therefore, they will be transferred in to either of the programs, counted towards residency, and recognized for the degree. All upper division nursing courses must be taken through the collaborative or on the home campus unless special permission is obtained prior to enrollment in the requested course.
Each campus maintains a completion program for registered nurses. While they are similar, there are differences, and you are free to matriculate at the campus of your choice. Students must matriculate at the University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine prior to or concurrent with NUR304/CON308. Early contact with an advisor(s) is required so you can evaluate the programs and begin to make course selections that will fulfill the requirements of the program of your choice.
The core courses and their method of delivery include:
Health Assessment NUR309 (ITV, University of Southern Maine offers), NUR300 (campus, University of Maine); Labs are offered on both campuses
Concepts in Nursing for the Practitioner NUR304 (Web, University of Maine offers), CON308 (campus, University of Southern Maine)
Concepts in Community Health NUR356 (ITV, University of Southern Maine offers) equivalent to NUR452 at University of Maine
Community Health Clinical (in local community)
Health-Related Research CON321 (ITV, University of Southern Maine offers), NUR310 (campus, University of Maine)
Leadership & Management in Nursing NUR409 (Web, University of Maine offers), NUR474 (campus, University of Southern Maine)
Socio-Cultural Aspects of Health and Health Care NUR415 both campuses (ITV, University of Maine offers)
RN Seminar NUR411 (Web, University of Maine offers), NUR476 (campus, University of Southern Maine)
Additional coursework is required by each institution. These requirements may be met through a combination of additional ITV or Web courses, occasional class meetings at a centralized location, and/or on-campus course offerings. The program requirements of each of these programs are available in this single brochure for comparison purposes. Since program requirements, administrative guidelines and residency policies vary from university to university, you are strongly advised to seek assistance prior to applying for admission.
