A listserv is an electronic "mailing list" allowing your instructor
and classmates to send email messages to the entire class at the same
time. Youll receive the messages as email. (It doesn't matter
which email program you use, but you'll receive the messages at the
email address from which you originally subscribe.)
Because your instructor may use the list for schedule updates and other
important announcements, its a good idea to check your email regularly.
Be sure to subscribe to the list right away so you don't miss any messages.
[NOTE: In the instructions below, the course PSYA 200 is used as an
example. The LISTNAME is PSYA200. Your instructor will tell you the
LISTNAME for your course. Substitute that name in place of PSYA200 below.]
1. To subscribe to a listserv
Send an e-mail message to: LISTSERV@LISTS.MAINE.EDU
(Do not include a subject in the SUBJECT field.)
In the body of the message, type:
SUBSCRIBE LISTNAME FIRSTNAME LASTNAME
[ Example: SUBSCRIBE PSYA200 JOHN DOE ]
(Be sure to include spaces after SUBSCRIBE, LISTNAME, and FIRSTNAME)
You'll receive an e-mail message confirming your request to be added
to the list. Respond as directed in the e-mail message.
2. To send a message to the list
Type your message (include a subject in the subject field) and mail
it to:
PSYA200@LISTS.MAINE.EDU
3. To reply to a message that you receive from the list
Select the reply command in your e-mail program and your message will be distributed to everyone subscribed to the list.
4. To unsubscribe from the list
At the end of the course you'll want to remove yourself from the
list. Send a message to LISTSERV@LISTS.MAINE.EDU with the following
message in the body: SIGNOFF PSYA200 (leave a space after SIGNOFF)
