Cable Modem
Sometimes referred to by a product name such as "Road Runner," or "PowerLink," a Cable Modem is a device that allows high-speed data access via a cable TV network. In the downstream direction (from the network to the computer) speeds are between 1-2Mbps (Megabits per second). In the upstream direction (from your computer to the network) speeds are limited to 256 Kbps or less.
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)
DSL is another form of communication system that operates at various rates between 256Kpbs to 786Kbps (kilobits per second) DSL connections are available through local telephone companies and national service providers. The top connection speed for DSL is 1Mbps.
ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)
ISDN is a type of communication system that operates at 128Kbps (kilobits per second).Most telephone companies offer this service, which provides twice the connection speed of a typical 56Kbps modem.
