A Note to Students Concerning Academic Integrity and the Examination Process

In order to eliminate inconsistency in the proctoring of examinations at distant sites and to more effectively inform students of what to expect in the exam room, we are asking that proctors read the following paragraphs before each proctored examination:

Out of consideration for your classmates and respect for the integrity of the examination process, please refrain from talking and any other behaviors that may be disruptive to other students. As official proctor, I am required to follow the instructions printed on the exam envelope. If you have any questions about the examination process or procedures, please contact the instructor, preferably before the exam begins.

A few words about academic integrity: Cheating is a violation of academic policy and the University of Maine System Conduct Code. Protect yourself from allegations of academic misconduct by refraining from any behaviors that may be construed as cheating. Any appearance or suggestion of cheating will be thoroughly investigated. Students who are caught cheating may be subject to academic penalties, such as receiving a failing grade, and/or conduct code sanctions, up to and including dismissal from the University. Thank you for your cooperation.
