RECEIVE SITE COORDINATOR
Job Description

Appointed by an organization which contracts with the University of Maine System, the Receive Site Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the operation of a facility designated to receive educational offerings and other instructional programs delivered through the University College. The Receive Site Coordinator usually works under limited supervision and frequently exercises initiative and judgment. This position requires a person having familiarity with local school district organization, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to understand and integrate policies and procedures of the local school, school district, and University. He/She is expected to be familiar with the various technological resources available to students at the Receive Site and to communicate on a regular basis by electronic mail. The Receive Site Coordinator, or representative, is responsible for ensuring that the tasks and functions noted but not limited to those below are carried out.

1. During the first week of each semester/session, be available for all academic classes, including those with no enrollments, to greet students, answer student questions, and refer to the appropriate Center or Campus those students needing to register.

2. Provide students with information on registration and on procedures to order books and other course material.

3. Be present at the start of each class in which students are enrolled to perform necessary tasks, listed below.

4. Set up and/or check television, videotape recording, and telephone equipment for the start of each class in which students are enrolled to ensure proper reception and operation.

5. Notify University College Technical Support Center (800-696-HELP) of any technical problems involving television signal reception, fax, computer, or telephone equipment.

6. Make videotapes of all classes, regardless of attendance, in which students at the site are enrolled.

7. Organize and maintain a tape library for storing videotapes of recorded classes and provide appropriate access to the videotapes for students who wish to view/review them.

8. Follow designated faculty videotape lending policy in response to requests to remove videotapes from site premises.


9. Receive, store, and distribute to students course materials, tests, exams, quizzes, reserve material for classes, and other information, as appropriate, which are mailed or faxed from the University College to the Receive Site.

10. Receive, distribute, and return interlibrary loan materials for students at the Receive Sites, and keep track of postage costs for reimbursement by the University.

11. Develop and implement local procedures that will maintain the University College policy regarding student-faculty confidentiality in the handling of student work and other correspondence.

12. Collect homework, papers, tests, exams, quizzes, and other student work, as appropriate, and return to the instructor via designated means (mail or fax).

13. Take attendance in each class. Keep attendance sheets on file and, when requested, forward a copy to either the faculty member or University staff, as directed.

14. Arrange for all tests, exams, and quizzes to be proctored when requested by faculty.

15. Work with appropriate University staff to facilitate student use of computer hardware and software applications (e.g., URSUS, MS Word, electronic mail).

16. Ensure that classroom environment and atmosphere at the Receive Site are conducive to learning and seek assistance from appropriate staff when necessary.

17. Develop and implement local procedures which will ensure the safety of students whenever University College /ITV classes are in session.

18. Participate in an annual review meeting with the school district superintendent, principal, University staff, and other personnel, as appropriate.

19. Whenever possible, attend University College staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, and other events, as requested.

20. Have the Receive Site available and staffed, when necessary, to receive DOE programming and other University College special events aside from regular academic programming (University and Technical College courses) in accordance with the contractual agreement between the University and the Receive Site.

21. May serve as liaison between site students and center staff in determining appropriate allocation of student activity funds.

22. May supervise college workstudy or volunteer assistance at site.

Note: The Receive Site Coordinator and all other staff appointed or designated by RECEIVE SITE to assist in receiving programs on the network shall at all times be deemed to be employees of RECEIVE SITE and not employees of UNIVERSITY for any reason, and shall not be entitled to any benefits from the University as required by law under the Maine Worker's Compensation Act, or any other statutory or employment benefits offered to University employees.
