Maine's Public Universities - University of Maine System

Compressed Video

The Compressed Video system is a two-way audio and video system, with classrooms at these UMS locations. Because the compressed video rooms are small, enrollment is generally limited to 10 students per location. Compressed video is often used for seminar-type, often upper-level courses.

Hands-on training is provided during the semester prior to the semester you will be teaching over compressed video. You will be contacted to arrange a time. The training always includes multiple campuses in order to provide you with as close an experience as possible to your actual class.

At your request, we can schedule the classroom should you want additional practice time. Please contact Glenn LeBlanc.

For your first two class meetings, a UMS staff person will be on hand to greet you and your students at each location and help them to use the compressed video system. A tips sheet is available in each classroom. Please take time during your first class meeting to go over this.

Please refer your students to University College's Distance Learning site, a valuable source of advice and step-by-step instructions for using instructional technologies.
