Tips for Teaching Via Compressed Video

At the beginning of your class, we suggest that you check other locations to make sure that your students are there.

During the first class session of the semester, go through the student orientation checklist and refer them to the list of tips for students in their classroom.

Use the camera position and zoom controls to show closer views of yourself and students when they speak. Encourage your distant students to do the same, and invite them to ask for training if they are not sure what to do.

Make sure students are seated close enough to the table to ensure that they will be heard by everyone.

Check to make sure that students at the distant locations are aware of the procedures for getting course materials and that they have received any materials you have distributed.

Do not turn your back to the microphone when using the document camera or computer.
