Interactive Television - ITV
The interactive television system uses one-way video and two-way audio. Your distant students will see you but you will not see them. Students participate in your class via toll-free phone lines into the classroom. Broadcast classrooms are located at all of the UMS campuses.
ITV classes can be broadcast to over 80 sites, 10 University College outreach centers, and UMS campuses. A typical class is broadcast to 30-40 locations. Class sizes range from fewer than 30 students to over 100 students.
Prior to the semester in which they begin teaching, all first-time ITV faculty are invited to participate in an orientation focusing on logistical, pedagogical, copyright, and library-related concerns of teaching over ITV. For further information contact Karen Proulx, the Faculty Liaison.
The following videotaped resources are available to provide your students with an introduction to the ITV system. At your request, your classroom technician can play them at the beginning of your first class session:
- how students can participate in class (using the telephone at the site or outreach center)
- using the telephone conferencing bridge (for in-class small group discussion)
- and using Blackboard.
