Supporting Your ITV Course
What You and Your Students Can Expect

If you’re new to ITV, remember that you’re not alone! A Distance Education Technician (DET) will be assigned to work with you through the semester. As so many faculty have pointed out, the DET makes a vital contribution to the successful delivery of your course. The DET will support your course by:

controlling the cameras and switching the video sources during your class;

taking incoming phone calls from students; and

producing computer graphics, or providing training should you wish to produce your own graphics.

DET assignments are made well in advance of the semester. Assignments are made on the basis of DET work schedules, your course’s technical requirements, and continuity of support. We try our best to support the unique working relationship that develops between the DET and faculty and to extend this relationship beyond any one semester.

Logistical Support is available for distributing course materials and exams to students and getting their work back from the distant locations. About 12 weeks before the semester begins you will receive a faculty information packet with details. (The packet is also online.)

1. Call Karen Proulx, the Faculty Liaison, at 1-800-245-5544 for assistance in distributing materials to students.

2. Materials that you had us send to your students should be at the remote classrooms when needed. If you become aware of a problem with delivery of course materials during your actual class time, please encourage students to check first with their local site coordinator. If they still have a problem, please tell them to call 1-800-868-7000 during the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, and 1-800-696-4357 after 5:00 pm.

3. Students' papers are mailed directly from the site to your campus mailbox. Any corrected papers that you send to Augusta for re-distribution will be mailed out to sites within one working day.

Technical Support is available via a toll-free number (1-800-696-4357). If you experience a technical difficulty in the broadcast classroom, your classroom technician will call Technical Support directly. If a student at a remote location experiences a problem, the student should be encouraged to call Tech Support. Tech Support monitors the ITV transmissions and can troubleshoot, isolate and sometimes fix problems. If there is a critical transmission problem requiring repair, Tech Support will dispatch the appropriate technician.

Videotapes of each of your classes are made at all receive locations and in technical support. In the event that one or more of your receive locations experiences technical problems and cannot receive your class broadcast, a videotape will be sent upon request. You will have the option to let students bring the tapes home or to restrict them to viewing the tapes at a site or University College outreach center as long as there are no copyright issues. Please indicate your preference on the Faculty Policies Form.
