Maine's Lifelong Learning Accounts
Maine has a program to make it easier for adult workers to get the training and education they need to better their lives. Called Lifelong Learning Accounts (LiLA), the program works like a 401(k). An employee opens an investment account to finance lifelong learning, and every dollar that the worker invests (up to an established limit) is matched by the employer. For income-eligible employees, an additional third party match also is available.
Employees can use Lila accounts to pay for tuition, books, supplies, and materials for courses offered on-site, online and through ITV at any University College location. Staff at Maine's Centers for Women, Work and Community meet with employees to discuss career and educational goals and to complete an individual learning plan.
