Maine's Public Universities - University of Maine System

University of Maine at Fort Kent

The grouping of courses qualifying for Elementary Special Education certification may be taken with several UMFK degree programs.

Traditional pre-service teachers will be enrolled in either the Bachelor of Science degree (for those students not previously enrolled in a degree program) or the Bachelor of University Studies degree (for those who have completed, or nearly completed, a previous bachelor's degree).

Those non-teachers seeking Elementary Special Education certification without earning a degree or major in Education will most likely be enrolled in the Bachelor of University Studies degree. This "BUS" degree allows for flexible course selection and self-designed programs.

Students workig towards a Behavioral Science major or those currently in the social services profession also may earn the Elementary Special Education certification within the BS or the BUS degree programs.
