Finding Articles |
To find journal and magazine articles, newspaper articles, book reviews, and other current information, you will be using the Indexes and Databases. These databases cover varying date ranges and discipline areas. To find information about the coverage and date ranges of the database, click on the 
in front of the database name.
To access databases from home you will need to "Authenticate" into the University of Maine System. You will be prompted by this box once you select the database to search, simply enter your last name only and your 14 digit library barcode number.
Academic Search Premier -- covers the areas of study: social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences, and ethnic studies. Date coverage varies according to the publication. Provides full-text for nearly 4,000 scholarly publications.
CINAHL -- Premier database for nursing and allied health literature. Includes references to journals, American Nurses' Association and National League for Nursing publications, nursing standards of practice, and critical paths. Updated monthly.
The Cochrane Library -- A collection of evidence-based medicine databases. Assesses the effectiveness and appropriateness of health care interventions--including medications, surgery, and education--through systematic review of scientific literature. Updated quarterly.
Medline -- Index to more than 3,600 journals covering all areas of clinical and experimental medicine, nursing, dentistry and health administration. Updated weekly.

Google -- Ranks results by popularity. Use the "Advanced" search feature and limit by domain.
Dogpile -- Does your search in six search engines at once. Use the "Advanced Search" for a more precise search.
