AAUW Scholarship Information
Scholarship Opportunity funded by the Mid-Coast Maine Branch of the American Association University Women (AAUW) This is a scholarship funding for first time college students and for those who have been out of college for awhile, to cover cost of one initial college class including tuition, fees, books and required materials at the University College at Rockland.
PURPOSE
To provide access to higher education for residents of mid-coast Maine through scholarship opportunity
ELIGIBILITY
- highly motivated with stated financial need
- high school graduate or GED recipient
- at least one year after high school graduation
- no recent college experience
APPLICATION PROCESS
Submit a packet of the following to:
AAUW Scholarship Project
University College at Rockland, University of Maine System
Breakwater Building, 91 Camden St, Suite 402, Rockland, ME 04841
Consisting of:
A one page introduction to include the following: name, address, phone number, date of birth, education including date of high school diploma or GED, and answers to the
following questions:
1. Why do you want to go to college?
2. What made you decide to do this now?
3. Your financial need.
4. Your hopes and goals for the future and how a college education fits into this vision?
6. Explain why you believe that you will be successful.
7. A letter of recommendation. This can be a letter from an employer, a neighbor, pastor, co-worker, or friend.
SELECTION PROCESS
Candidate selection based on applicant's motivation, need, and potential for success. Acceptance decision
made by a committee composed of AAUW members, UCR Director & Coordinator of Student Services.
You may be asked to meet with a representative of AAUW and a University College at Rockland staff member.
FUNDING
Scholarship will cover the cost of one college course, including tuition, fees, books and required materials. Check
will be sent directly to the University by AAUW.
SUCCESS
Quantitative: To complete the class with a grade of "C" or better and plans to pursue a college education
Qualitative: Increased self-esteem, gained knowledge of self as learner, progress toward personal and academic
goals, broadened perceptions of self and the possibilities for growth
