The Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts degree offered by the University of Maine at Augusta is comparable to the first half of most traditional bachelor of arts programs and readies students for baccalaureate work in an academic field of study. Program information sheet.

The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program of Maine is a collaborative effort of the University of Maine at Augusta and the University of Maine at Presque Isle in cooperation with several hospitals that serve as clinical affiliates. Created to provide education and training for work in the social services field, University of Maine at Augusta's Associate of Arts in Social Services degree offers courses which examine the resources, issues and best practices of the social services system. UMA's Associate of Science in Nursing degree prepares the graduate to enter the health care delivery system. The graduate is prepared to sit for the R.N. exam and to practice in a structured health care setting.

Baccalaureate Degree Programs:

University of Maine at Augusta's Bachelor of Applied Science degree was developed primarily to meet the needs of students from the Maine Community College System (and former Vocational Technical Colleges) who wish to enhance their career options. This degree can prepare students to start their own business in the trade they learned in a community college, enter a graduate program, advance within a business or improve the effectiveness of their own business, or redirect their career path. The Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies is offered by the University of Maine at Augusta. This program offers students the ability to design a curriculum uniquely tailored to their career or personal goals. University of Maine at Augusta's Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree prepares dental hygienists for positions of responsibility in a variety of settings, including health care delivery, research, education and public health, and for further study. The University of Maine at Fort Kent's Online RN-to-BSN Degree Program is designed for students who are already licensed as RN's and are seeking a BSN degree. University of Maine at Augusta's Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Human Services ,offered in its entirety via ITV, provides students with the skills, knowledge and current best practices applicable to work in these fields. University of Maine at Augusta’s Bachelor of Science in Library and Information Services degree program trains students to become para-professionals and technical assistants in libraries and information centers. UMA's Bachelor of Arts in Social Science can be completed at the UCT.  The B.A. in Social Science degree builds upon the liberal arts tradition of providing a better understanding of ourselves, our culture and environment. This degree provides a background in various disciplines that apply to any career, but specifically to those that require making decisions, solving problems,  evaluating information, conducting research and communicating in writing and orally. Students earning an Associate Degree in Social Services, General Studies or Liberal Arts may readily transfer their credits with junior standing to this degree.

Additionally, courses fulfilling many of the general education requirements of Baccalaureate Degree  programs, both in-state and out-of-state, are available in Rockland.


Master's Degree Programs:

A self-designed major in University of Southern Maine's Master of Science in Adult Education prepares educators for a variety of human resource development roles in all types of organizational and community settings. Courses will be available online, via two-way video at the seven University of Maine System campuses, University College of Bangor, the Hutchinson Center in Belfast, and Lewiston-Auburn College, as well as via one-week summer intensives at the Gorham campus.* Program information sheet. The University of Maine Master of Science in Computer Engineering non-thesis option program is now available online. In order to become a candidate for this degree, you must either have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering or at least demonstrated its equivalent. Program information sheet. University of Southern Maine's Master of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Rehabilitation Counseling program helps students acquire the basic foundation, knowledge, skills and experiences necessary to enter the profession. Courses for more than 30 of the 48 credit hours will be available via two-way video at the seven University of Maine System campuses, University College of Bangor, the Hutchinson Center in Belfast, and Lewiston-Auburn College. The University of Maine Master of Science in Electrical Engineering non-thesis option program is now available online. In order to become a candidate for this degree, you must either have completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or at least demonstrated its equivalent. Undergraduate Certificates:

University of Maine Augusta’s Child and Youth Care Practitioner Certificate offers a 30-credit-hour sequence of courses for people who provide direct services to youth in group homes, residential treatment, shelters, juvenile corrections, foster care, day care and other community outreach support programs. University of Maine's Certificate of Classical Studies offers students interested in the classics, mythology, the origins of customs and values and ideas as well as the Latin language, a program of study at a distance via ITV and computer. University of Maine at Fort Kent offers the Certificate of Study in Criminal Justice to those interested in or currently practicing in the criminal justice or law enforcement fields. All nine of the courses will be offered online, including electives. This certificate is also appropriate preparation for entry into the UMFK two-year Criminal Justice and four-year Rural Public Safety Administration programs, normally offered on campus. USMs Foundations of Holistic Health certificate program is designed for students interested in exploring the realm of contemporary healing. All courses are available online or via ITV/videoconference.  

The Certificate in Liberal Arts is awarded to any student who registers for, and successfully completes, one course in each discipline area of the certificate (six courses total) at any University College Center or receive site. Eastern Maine Community College has designed an Early Childhood Certificate Program for those wishing to learn or update skills for entry-level positions at organizations serving young children. The 37 credit-hour certificate program, which is delivered statewide via ITV, is excellent preparation for continued study in education and child development. University of Southern Maine offers the Certificate in Environmental Safety and Health designed for those working in this field. Six of the eight courses are offered via interactive television.* Contact: Sharon D'Orsie.

University of Maine Augusta’s Human Services Certificate offers a 31-credit-hour sequence of courses that provides you with a foundation of skills and knowledge important to the general field of human services. Contact: Grace Leonard.

University of Maine Augusta’s 15-credit hour certificate program in Library and Information Services provides the practical skills for entry-level employment in libraries (academic, special, school and public) working for professional librarians. Program information sheet. Contact: Coordinator.

The University of Maine Certificate in Maine Studies offers students an opportunity to pursue a multidisciplinary study of Maine through courses in history, literature, women's studies, economics, political science, geology, geography and biology. University of Maine Augusta’s Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community Certificate is appropriate for persons working in the mental health field who have direct-service experience in mental health, but who lack formal higher education or for those individuals who wish to seek employment in the mental health field. This program emphasizes a basic understanding of human behavior, mental health rehabilitation skills, and a foundation in the methods and values of psychosocial rehabilitation. University of Maine Augusta’s Certificate Program in Substance Abuse Rehabilitation provides coursework relevant to the education requirements for licensure. At present, an applicant for licensure must have a minimum of an associate degree in a substance abuse rehabilitation related field. This certificate provides the necessary course work for people who are interested in becoming substance abuse counselors or who already have a degree in another field. The State of Maine licensing law requires that in addition to the specialized course work in the field, individuals must also complete 4,000 hours of work experience in a facility licensed by the State of Maine Office of Substance Abuse. Our certificate program only provides the education component; students must complete the 4,000 hours in addition to the coursework. Contact: Grace Leonard.


Graduate Certificates:

University of Maine’s Child & Family Service Certificate will benefit people who work in human service agencies such as mental health centers, child welfare, child and family services agencies, and many other social services settings. The program’s focus is on the knowledge, values, and skills necessary for practice with children and families. University of Maine's Graduate Certificate Program in Information Systems is primarily Web-based. The 18-credit hour program focuses on the technical, managerial and policy issues associated with constructing and managing computer-based information systems for modern organizations. The objectives of the program are to meet the growing demand in society for high-level information system skills and provide a path for women and men from diverse fields to rapidly transition to information system career paths.* Program information sheet. University of Southern Maine’s Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician/Community Certificate is especially suited for practitioners who currently work in the mental health system and who desire training in psychosocial rehabilitation, or for persons with prior graduate training who need flexible coursework to update their skills and knowledge in the psychosocial rehabilitation approach. Persons with bachelor’s degrees and one year of direct experience in the mental health field may apply for a five-course sequence. Courses are available via two-way video conferencing at the seven University of Maine System campuses, University College of Bangor, the Hutchinson Center in Belfast, and Lewiston-Auburn College.
