PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
Description:
This program is designed to raise the educational aspirations of Maine students by offering them an opportunity
to experience college by registering for University courses at half the in-state tuition rate.
Eligible Schools:
ALL MAINE HIGH SCHOOLS
Eligible Students:
All Maine students * currently attending Maine High Schools, whether private or public (or being
home schooled in Maine homes), and all adult education diploma candidates who are within one year of
completion.
Additional Criteria:
Traditional high school students must have school approval, parental approval, minimum
high school GPA of B or better, and junior standing.
Non-traditional (adult ed) high school students must have approval from the adult education director and/or counselor and must have attained a B or above average in their adult education course work (unsuccessful high school work in the past as a traditional age student should not restrict adult education student participation; hence, eligibility will be based on current performance as an adult ed student).
Limitations of Courses:
Students can take any academic course for which they have met the course
prerequisites as long as there is space available in the course. Traditional high school students may enroll in a
maximum of two courses or six credit hours (whichever is greater) per semester during their junior and senior years.
Adult ed students may enroll in up to two courses or six credit hours (whichever is greater) per semester for
maximum of two semesters (i.e. a maximum of four courses or twelve credits total, whichever is greater). The
program is limited to courses taught by direct, on-site instruction during the regular academic year (i.e. fall and
spring semesters only).
If you feel you meet the above conditions, you should check the second box in Section 4 to "request the special
tuition waiver under the High School Aspirations Initiative Program."
* Out of state students attending Maine high schools are eligible but will be charged one half the out of state
tuition rate
