Financial Aid
Here are some quick steps for understanding the financial aid process:
1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov or pick up a paper application from the front lobby
NOTE: Make sure that you use the web address above; scam web sites have been reported.
FAFSA School Codes: 009762 = USM 006760 = UMA ( DO NOT LIST UC SACO)
2. FAFSA processing takes 2 weeks if filed online, or 4 weeks if filed by mail.
3. The federal government will send an eligibility report to your home campus.
4. Your home campus then issues an Award Letter detailing your financial aid.
5. If required, sign and return the Award Letter to your home campus.
Important Tips:
* You must be accepted for admission at your home campus to be eligible to receive Federal Financial Aid;
prospective students generally apply for admission and aid at the same time.
* Generally, but not always, you must enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours/semester to be eligible for Federal Aid
* File for financial aid well in advance of the beginning of the semester
* Each year a FAFSA must be completed; renewal applications can be filed at the FAFSA web site at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
* The financial aid filing year is June through May
